Paleolithic diet (Paleo diet) is a dietary regime which some people believe to be effective in treating MS, multiple sclerosis. The diet was first popularized by film writer Roger McDougall. McDougall was diagnosed with MS in 1953. His condition progressed steadily until he changed his diet to one which is essentially the same as what is now called the Paleo diet (Paleolithic diet).

Roger McDougall was Born August 2, 1910 – Died May 27, 1993. He married Renee Dunlop and had two children, a daughter Elspeth and son Lindsay and had two grandchildren. He was working on his ideas right up until the day he died in 1993. He was 82.

In 1963, McDougall settle in California, where he taught screenwriting. Within a few months he was able to transfer from a wheelchair to electric golf cart, and by the time he returned to England in 1970 he was on his feet again.

He frequently published articles and pamphlets on his diet in an attempt to help others affected by the disease.

McDougall was born in Scotland on August 2, 1910. After graduating from Glasgow University, he headed to London and a career as a freelance writer.

In 1935, McDougall married Renee Dunlop, who died in 1977. He is survived by daughter, Elspeth of New York; a son, Lindsay, of London, and two grandchildren.
