Slow Cooker Pulled Chicken BBQ {Paleo, Dairy-Free, Gluten-Free}

today and I want to show you a recipe for slow cooker pulled chicken barbecue and it's a great thing to bring to a picnic or for the 4th of July celebration or any time you want a really quick feel-good recipe and it's easy to make it's only a few ingredients I'm going to use my slow cooker here and a couple of herbs and spices and the chicken so before I get started though a word about slow cookers I know that a lot of people are concerned about lead in the glaze on the slow cooker so in the blog post below you'll see a few of my recommendations for slow cookers that do not contain any lead and this is my slow cooker again so I'm gonna get that ready and for this recipe the slow cooker pulled chicken BBQ we're going to use a barbecue sauce that's already made and this is part of my effort to come up with recipes that are really easy to make so I don't think that we have to go to the trouble of making something from scratch at this point we have enough healthy barbecue sauces on the market that you can pretty much find something that you're looking for they have paleo barbecue sauces they have regular organic barbecue sauce they have nightshade free barbecue sauce even so you can look for those on Amazon or at your health food store and you're definitely going to find something that will work for you so what we do to make this recipe come together is first we're going to take that barbecue sauce that we've picked out for ourselves and 10 ounces of it 10 to 12 ounces we're going to just go ahead and put it right into the bottom of our slow cooker pot and we are going to start adding a few additional spices and flavorings now this is something that I'm doing because I want to make the dish more medicinal help you take back your health and you can leave all this out if you're happy with the flavor of your barbecue sauce and you want something that's so totally easy all you have to do is put barbecue sauce with your chicken into the slow cooker and you're done but I'm going to show you a few spices here so I'm gonna add garlic powder first of all that's a great one for immune support garlic is also anti-cancer it's full of antioxidants it's anti-inflammatory it just all-around it's a really medicinal herb or spice to add in it's 1 tablespoon here so I already measured it out I'm just gonna put that in and next I have turmeric and that one is getting a lot of press these days turmeric is anti-inflammatory it helps relieve pain it's also got some properties to help with warming and soothing the digestion so I'm going to go ahead and add this right and it's about a half a teaspoon that I put in and then we have an herb blend so I use Italian herb mix it's a really easy way to get herbs in without having to go through and chop all the fresh herbs this is thyme parsley rosemary and oregano I believe and it's 1 tablespoon so I'm going to add that right and on top of everything else and then paprika smoked paprika is anti-inflammatory it's got lots of antioxidants again that really bright red color shows us all the antioxidants in it and then I have pan pepper here just an eighth of a teaspoon this is 1 teaspoon of paprika by the way 1/8 of a teaspoon of cayenne and that adds again anti-inflammatory properties antioxidants it adds a little bit of spice and I have over here Himalayan pink salt and I'm using a half a teaspoon now and then at the end obviously you add more just to get it to your taste with the salt so everything goes right into the pot on top of the barbecue sauce and now we've just boosted all the nutrients in that barbecue sauce I'm going to add about 3 tablespoons of olive oil it just helps all the flavors come together there because we added a lot of spices and herbs and I use I do like the Bragg's olive oil and apple cider vinegar but of course use your favorite there I'm gonna have 1 tablespoon of the apple cider vinegar so all of those not only add the health benefits but it also makes it a little more flavorful and you'll just stir that up in the pipe so that it all comes together and you'll put the chicken right on top so I have 2 pounds of organic chicken and I like to use boneless and skinless for this recipe just because it makes it easier at the end to pull the chicken apart but you can use it chicken with the bone with the skin it'll add more nutrients and more flavor and that's how a lot of organic natural chicken comes from the farmer anyways with the bone and the skin on it so I'm just putting it right on top here and again it's about 2 pounds of chicken and then you push it down into the sauce and let me wash my hands real quick ok so that cooks on low for about 5 to 6 hours or on high maybe for 3 to 4 hours and so we're going to keep it on low and go we'll go five or six hours and see how it does when you're done with that chicken there in the slow cooker you're gonna need to pull the chicken apart and mix it in with the sauce and that's the last step in the whole recipe it's really really easy so what I've done is I've gotten this chicken finished out here and I'm going to show you how I pull it apart and this is actually what it looks like the chicken and it comes out it looks like a whole chicken breast like it's just been cooked there in the slow cooker but it's really really soft really soft so you can just pull it apart and it'll all come off and flake off this sauce itself will just soak up in there so I'm doing it on the plate as you can see but I have some in here they've already pulled apart and it's melted with the sauce and I'm going to give you guys a close-up of this in a second but it all just melds together all the flavors real nice so let's put this back in here and again you're just pulling it apart and it comes off real nice and then it's ready so I hope you guys will try it at home and leave a comment below if you have any questions enjoy and keep taking back your home .
